Hartle Hall
BOYS DORM

Welcome
Highland View Academy welcomes you to be an active and positive member of our family. It is the mission of the faculty and staff to provide you with an exceptional experience during your time as a student here. It is our wish that this time spent here at HVA will forge you into the God-centered man you are meant to become.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
Mission and Vision
The Deans are here to provide students with a structured, positive environment that will help guide students into making positive life decisions that develop boys into men. The Dean’s mission is to help mentor the residents of Hartle Hall into strong, disciplined, Christian men. To this end, it is expected that residents take an active part in this endeavor through the healthy balance of work, school, and entertainment, and give full cooperation to the Deans, Faculty, and Staff.

Study Hall
During study hall, students are expected to be quiet and productive. During this time, RAs will be in their respective halls making sure that students are working on schoolwork and not distracting others. Students wishing to work together on projects or other related items must get approval from RA and continue to stay focused on their task. Those unable to stay focused will be asked to return to their respective rooms apart from each other.
Study hall hours are from 8:00 PM-10:00 PM Sunday-Thursday. Study hall is not the time for congregating in the lobby, hallways, or rooms; goofing off, playing games, being loud etc.
Residents must be in their rooms, the study room, or the computer lab with permission during study hall. No other location is acceptable. Students must be considerate of others who are trying to focus on school work and must remember to keep the dorm quiet during study hall.
Students on “Down Grades” (1 ‘’D’’ or “F”) will turn their phones in for the evening starting at study hall. Arrangements must be made ahead of time if notes or other necessary materials are on any device. Students on “Down Grades” will also meet in a designated spot to study for the duration of the study hall. This study room will be totally quiet. Failing to report here will result in further restrictions.
Grades are checked every Friday or as deemed necessary by the Dean.

Housekeeping
Residents are responsible for keeping their rooms, hallways, and bathrooms clean and orderly. Residents must remember they are using school property and should care and respect it.
Room check is a visual inspection of the resident’s room by the Deans to ensure the room is orderly and a clean place to live. Room checks will take place each week as determined by the dean and are graded pass/fail. Students who fail room check must fix it to the Dean’s approval before participating in extracurricular activities such as rec.
Residents will have chores to complete in order to help out their fellow residents keep the dorm clean. Deans will release chore lists and schedules as needed. Chores not completed will result in loss of privileges.
Window screens must remain in place at all times, except in case of emergency exit. Tampering or removing screens will result in a fine. Furniture must be left in its intended purpose. Rooms must be returned to the original configuration and cleaned before moving out. Failure to do so will result in a cleaning fee. Students are responsible for all damages to their rooms. Students wishing to alter the bunks/lofts in any way must get permission from the Dean.

GIRLS DORM
Dehaan Hall
Welcome
Attending a boarding academy and living in the dorm provides its own unique experience. Living on campus means you are front and center for every school event, S.A. Competition, and campus activity. As a dorm student, you learn responsibility, time management, and the skills to take care of yourself and space. In DeHaan hall, you will enjoy the diverse and different personalities all living and working together. Whether it is cooking in the kitchen, worshiping in the chapel, study hall in the lobby, or simply hanging out in your room, there’s so much to do and be a part of. Friendships are formed and grown through the year by working on academic projects, competing in class competitions, and practicing sports and/or music. Being a dorm student means you are completely immersed in all that campus life has to offer!
Mission and Vision
We will endeavor to provide residents with a Christ-like, safe, healthy and supportive family-like environment. We will work towards achieving the best possible spiritual and educational goals.

Girl's Club
An integral part of dormitory life is participation in the Girls’ Club, a group that promotes friendship amongst the girls of HVA. Membership is open to all residents and community students. The primary focus of the club is to provide a healthy avenue for the students to develop a sense of community while organizing various social events for the dorm and the school. Officers will be chosen in the first quarter of school to plan events throughout the year.

Study Hall
During study hall the dorm is to be quiet and distractions minimized so that residents can be focused and productive. Study Hall is located in the lobby and will begin at 8:30 each night.
Study hall hours are determined by a resident’s grade average. If a resident has a grade average of 64 or above, she has no study hall. If a resident has an average below 64, or depending on the circumstances, on the DF&I list she has one hour of strict study hall in the lobby with the Dean on Duty or RA.
All new residents begin the year with relaxed study hall which will then be adjusted after grade reports are generated.

Housekeeping
Residents are responsible for keeping their rooms, hallways and bathrooms tidy. They are expected to treat school property with respect and care. Any vandalism or destruction of dorm property will result in financial accountability.
There will be room inspections a minimum of twice weekly.
Each room is outfitted with a bed/mattress, desk, dresser, closet, and drawers for each resident. Each room also has a sink and a mirror. Rooms have heating in the winter and cooling in the warmer months. Bathrooms are assigned and include a shower and a toilet stall. Basic cleaning supplies are provided, but students are advised to have their own as well.
We ask that residents discuss space with their roommate before bringing couches, loveseats, extra chairs, entertainment cabinets, or coffee tables, as space in the rooms is limited.
