Orientation Day

Hi, my name is Joju, and I’m a sophomore at Highland View Academy. In these blogs, I’ll be sharing what life is like here at HVA as a student. But first, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I came to HVA as a freshman because I heard about my older sisters’ experiences, so I wanted to see for myself. I wanted to stay close with my friends and make new ones in a Christian school. At HVA, I love the music programs, which include our two choirs, handbells, and band. I also love the teachers because they’re determined to help us learn and grow. I enjoy my classes, like world history, because they’re interactive and engaging.

Now that you know who I am, let’s dive into the 2025-2026 school year!

This year, we have 101 students on our campus. There are many new faces - new teachers, new staff, and of course, new students. On our campus, God is truly the center of everything. In every class, we pray and present our requests to Him. I especially love daily Prayer and Praise, which is where the entire school gets together to sing, pray, and have a devotional thought. Our students come from different backgrounds, some not being Adventist or even Christian, so Prayer and Praise time is the perfect opportunity for all of us to get to know God better.

So far this year, we’ve had many events, like lake day and Sabbath in the mountains. It rained both days, but they were still so much fun! We also went to the Jordan Feliz concert this past Saturday at the Frederick SDA Church. It was an amazing opportunity to interact with our community. There were also booths around the outside of the church, which included my favorite, HVA.

This past weekend was a lot of fun with our first music performance on Sabbath morning at the Highland View Church. Then, Saturday evening, we had Scavenger Hunt, which is where classes compete in a series of fun games in the gym.

This week (Sept 1 - Sept 5), we are having our first Week of Prayer of the year. Our evening meetings take place at the Highland View Church at 7:30 PM. We’d love for you to attend and worship with us.
